[Meta to Lay Off 10%, Affecting 8,000 Employees]
On April 24, Meta announced plans to lay off 10% of its workforce, impacting approximately 8,000 employees. The company aims to improve operational efficiency through layoffs to offset significant expenditures in artificial intelligence (AI). In a memo sent to employees, Meta disclosed details of the layoff plan, stating that the layoffs will be implemented on May 20, and the company will no longer hire for the 6,000 positions originally planned to be filled. Meta's Head of Human Resources, Janelle Gale, mentioned AI-related expenses, stating that the layoffs are part of ongoing efforts to enhance the company's operational efficiency and help offset other ongoing investments by Meta.
