Ledger CTO parses quantum password migration, blockchain leans towards hash based signature scheme
Odaily Planet Daily News: Charles Guillemet, Chief Technology Officer of Ledger, pointed out that the development of post quantum cryptography has entered a critical stage. Although the landing time of practical quantum computers is not yet clear, the migration of encryption systems across the industry is an inevitable trend. Under the leadership of NIST, traditional fields plan to phase out high-risk algorithms by 2030 and completely ban them by 2035, while government and enterprise institutions will complete their migration layout by 2029. Encryption and key exchange will use ML-KEM to resist hoarding data quantum decryption attacks, and digital signatures will become the core of blockchain transformation. Traditional industries prefer ML-DSA hybrid solutions, while blockchain prefers secure and robust SLH-DSA hash signatures. Both schemes have their own advantages and disadvantages, and the compatibility issue between post quantum algorithms and MPC, threshold signatures, remains a key risk that the industry urgently needs to address.
