[Hassett Supports Powell's Explanation on Remaining as 'Acting Federal Reserve Chair']
Odaily Planet Daily News – Kevin Hassett, Director of the U.S. White House National Economic Council, expressed support for Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's plan to temporarily remain in his position if his successor has not been confirmed by the Senate when his term expires in May. Hassett stated on Wednesday, 'I believe this is an appropriate legal interpretation.' President Trump has nominated Christopher Waller to succeed Powell, but Republicans currently lack the votes to advance the nomination from the Senate Banking Committee to the Senate floor for a confirmation vote. Republican Senator Thom Tillis has said he will delay the vote until the Department of Justice halts what he calls a 'false' investigation into cost overruns on the Federal Reserve building renovation project. Speaking about Waller, Hassett remarked, 'We are very confident that he will become chair at the appropriate time. I believe there will be discussions on how to proceed.' (Jin10)
