[Iranian Media Claims Risk to Submarine Cables in the Strait of Hormuz]
Golden Finance reported on April 22 that Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency reiterated on Wednesday that Gulf Arab states may still face the risk of submarine data cables in the Strait of Hormuz being severed. Tasnim News Agency stated, 'If multiple major cables are damaged simultaneously, whether due to accidents or deliberate sabotage, it could lead to severe internet outages in the Persian Gulf.' Multiple cables traverse the Strait of Hormuz. The Gulf region has previously experienced internet outages due to repeated cuts to submarine cables in the Red Sea. Yemen's Houthi forces have also previously issued threats regarding the cables. (Associated Press)
