[Coinbase Report: Quantum Computing Threat Approaching, Crypto Industry Needs to Develop Migration Plans in Advance] An independent advisory committee commissioned by Coinbase has released a 50-page report stating that although current quantum computing capabilities are not yet sufficient to break the cryptographic algorithms used by Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other blockchains, the likelihood of "fault-tolerant large-scale quantum computers" emerging in the future is increasing, and the industry needs to immediately plan response strategies. The report notes that NIST recommends migrating to quantum-resistant cryptographic solutions by 2035, but this timeline may be overly optimistic. The Ethereum Foundation has already proposed quantum-resistant digital signature solutions, and projects like Solana are also testing quantum-resistant wallet designs.
