[Survey Shows That Despite Inflation Threats, Bank of England Expected to Keep Interest Rates Unchanged Until 2026]
Jin10 Data, April 21 – According to a Reuters survey of economists, the Bank of England is expected to keep interest rates unchanged next week and possibly maintain this policy through 2026. The economists' views are largely consistent with those from last month, though inflation expectations have been revised upward.
Last month, financial markets quickly began factoring in a series of interest rate hikes due to concerns that the energy cost surge caused by a potential war between Israel and Iran would necessitate policy responses. However, economists do not share this view and have consistently maintained their stance on keeping interest rates unchanged.
Survey results indicate that inflation rates were already very high before the outbreak of the war and are expected to rise significantly in the coming months before easing early next year. Bank of England Governor Bailey stated earlier this month that investors should not necessarily expect rate hikes. Most forecasters who previously held similar views now seem to believe his statement, as current financial conditions have tightened significantly.
