[U.S. Department of Justice Refuses to Assist France in Investigating Musk's X Company] According to Golden Finance, on April 20, after the Paris office of social media platform X was raided earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Justice has informed French law enforcement that it will not assist in France's investigation into Elon Musk's X company. In a two-page letter issued on Friday by the DOJ's Office of International Affairs, the department accused France of improperly using its judicial system to interfere with a U.S. company. Media outlets reviewed the letter, which stated: 'This investigation seeks to use France's criminal legal system in a manner that violates the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, aiming to regulate a public square for the free expression of ideas and opinions.' The letter further noted that France's request for U.S. assistance 'is an attempt to embroil the United States in a politically charged criminal proceeding, with the goal of improperly regulating the business activities of a social media platform through prosecution.' The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed the issuance of the letter, which was addressed to an international cooperation office within France's Ministry of Justice. The Paris prosecutor's office responsible for the investigation stated it was unaware of the letter. The office added that the French Constitution guarantees judicial independence, and French prosecutors have sole authority over criminal investigations.
