[Iranian Senior Commander Visits Iraq Amid Sensitive US-Iran Negotiations]
Golden Finance reported that on April 19, multiple informed sources disclosed on April 18 that Ismail Qaani, commander of the Quds Force under Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, visited Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, on that day. This marks Qaani's first overseas trip since Iran and the United States announced a temporary ceasefire earlier this month.
According to Iraqi officials and sources, Qaani's visit will involve discussions with various Iraqi factions on how to ease regional conflicts and their impact on Iraq. Qaani is expected to meet with Iraqi political leaders and armed faction leaders to coordinate positions among Iran-supporting factions within Iraq, aiming to ensure that the security situation in Iraq and the broader region does not deteriorate further during this "sensitive period."
Sources also indicated that Qaani's visit may address efforts to resolve the political deadlock in Iraq caused by the nomination of a new prime minister. (Xinhua News Agency)
