What Might Copper Need? Stock-Market Resilience
Copper's upward trajectory could hinge on continued stock-market gains. Futures at the start of 1Q have revisited round-number resistance at $13,000 and may have up-too-much inklings, with initial support around $10,000 in the case of some typical back-and-fill. Advancing copper is a question of sustainability, and my graphic shows a top factor for the economically sensitive metal to stay elevated is a resilient stock market. Copper's same-chart syndrome with the Bloomberg World Exchange Market Capitalization since 2015 shows the industrial metal catching up to the record-setting stock index in 2025.
Staying above $13,000 is a sign of copper's resilience and global economic strength. A drop back toward $10,000 would be normal reversion, which might be subject to a catalyst like some back-and-fill in equity prices.
