[UK and France Plan to Lead International Action to Ensure Freedom of Navigation in the Strait of Hormuz]
Reported by Golden Finance, on April 18th, local time April 17th, British Prime Minister Starmer stated in Paris, France, that world leaders welcome the latest developments regarding Iran's opening of the Strait of Hormuz but emphasized that the arrangements should be long-term and practical. Starmer pointed out that the international community has sent a clear signal that the Strait of Hormuz should remain open without transit fees or additional restrictions. He called for the resumption of shipping as soon as conditions allow to mitigate the impact on the global economy.
Starmer also stated that France and the UK will lead an international initiative, to be launched when conditions are ripe, aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation in the region. He emphasized that the initiative will strictly maintain a peaceful and defensive nature. Additionally, Starmer revealed that a planning meeting related to this initiative will be held in London next week, with participation and support expected from over ten countries.
