[Russian CEX Grinex Hit by Cyberattack, Losses Exceed $15 Million]
BlockBeats reports that on April 17, the trading platform Grinex, associated with the Russian crypto market, suspended withdrawals and trading on Thursday, citing a 'large-scale cyberattack.' The exchange's statement claimed that over 1 billion rubles (approximately $13.1 million) were stolen, but blockchain analytics firm Elliptic tracked the actual losses to be around $15 million USDT. The stolen funds have been converted into TRX and ETH via the Tron and Ethereum networks to evade freezing.
It is reported that Grinex is considered the successor to the sanctioned Garantex exchange platform, which was targeted by U.S. authorities last year for facilitating the flow of hundreds of millions of dollars in illicit funds.
