Driving AI datacenter growth without Bitcoin mining is like driving a truck down a Costa Rican highway without shock absorbers: irresponsible and destined to fail.
The problem: unlike flexible, predictable Bitcoin mining sites which stabilize grids (Duke) and incentivize renewable energy expansion (Cornell), AI datacenters:
1. Have massive inflexible+unpredictable electricity consumption which actually does strain power grids
2. Have a heavy reliance on baseload thermal energy (aka: fossil fuels)
Both problems go away when your datacenter has ~3% Flexible Load from Bitcoin mining. But until AI datacenters catch up, they'll continue to face these sorts of backlashes and bans.(Daniel Batten)
