Samsung Electronics is accelerating efforts to improve DRAM yields for its sixth-generation HBM4 memory, with 1c DRAM yields exceeding 80%, but effective HBM4 yields still below 60%, according to industry estimates. The company aims to reach near-mature HBM4 yields in the second half to meet demand from AI clients including Nvidia. HBM4 production is more complex due to stacking, packaging and thermal control, with yields often dropping at final assembly. While Samsung has begun shipments, large-scale supply and profitability hinge on yield and cost stabilization, especially given higher EUV-related costs. (Chosunbiz)
