[US Media: Iran Says It Can Suspend Uranium Enrichment for Up to 5 Years, Trump Rejects]
BlockBeats News, April 14 – According to a report by The New York Times on April 13, Iran stated that it could agree to suspend uranium enrichment activities for a maximum of 5 years. U.S. President Trump has rejected this proposal.
The report noted that one U.S. official and two senior Iranian officials revealed that during U.S.-Iran negotiations held in Islamabad, Pakistan, the U.S. requested Iran to suspend uranium enrichment activities for 20 years. On April 13, Iran formally responded, stating it could only agree to a suspension of up to 5 years.
U.S. officials also stated that the U.S. had asked Iran to transport highly enriched uranium out of the country, but Iran insisted on keeping the enriched uranium within its borders. However, Iran proposed significantly 'diluting' the nuclear fuel. The report mentioned that the U.S. and Iran are discussing holding a new round of face-to-face negotiations, but according to U.S. officials, the plans have not yet been finalized.
