It should be tonight at 10 PM Beijing time. What’s being blocked isn’t the entire Strait of Hormuz, but rather all ships entering or leaving Iranian ports and coastal areas. For ships merely passing through the Strait of Hormuz without heading to Iranian ports, the U.S. has stated they won’t intercept them.
Essentially, this is a blockade targeting Iranian ports, with the main goal likely being to cut off Iran’s so-called 'shadow fleet.' The shadow fleet is the real cash cow for Iran’s oil exports, sanction evasion, and foreign exchange inflows. Blocking it is like hitting Iran’s Achilles’ heel.
Iran exports about 2 million barrels of crude oil daily, with the bulk of it heavily reliant on the shadow fleet or shadow shipping practices. Daily revenue is estimated at around $170 million to $190 million.
