ERC-8211 still feels too early right now, but its adoption could give rise to truly consumer-grade Agentic DeFi protocols. At the beginning of 2025, the concept of 'AI + DeFi' under the name DeFAI, proposed by stablecoin MIM founder @danielesesta, quickly became the hottest trend at the time. Within a short period, it took the crypto space by storm, with DeFAI leaders GRIFFAIN and ANON seeing their market caps soar to $500M and $300M respectively. By early 2026, ERC-8211—a standard that could truly complete the missing pieces of DeFAI’s standardized, verifiable execution-layer infrastructure—emerged. It had the potential to drive consumer-grade Agentic DeFi protocols with highly practical narratives, yet it failed to gain traction and didn’t reach the hype levels of DeFAI. The AI Agents sector has long struggled with the lack of a secure, flexible, intelligent, and verifiable execution layer. The introduction of the ERC-8211 standard perfectly solves DeFAI’s execution challenges and can be considered the most critical puzzle piece in pushing the DeFi 2.0 era from narrative to adoption. I believe the narrative ceiling for ERC-8211 + AI Agents + DeFi is far higher than DeFAI. In the next six months, we’ll likely see the emergence of truly demand-driven Agentic DeFi protocols.
