[Chainalysis Analyst: Paying Hormuz Transit Fees with Cryptocurrency May Face Sanctions] According to a report by Golden Finance, on April 11, Chainalysis Senior Intelligence Analyst Kaitlin Martin stated that shipping companies using cryptocurrency to pay transit fees potentially destined for Iran may face significant sanction risks. Under the current sanctions framework, any payments made to the Iranian regime, including those related to passage through critical waterways, could be interpreted as 'material support,' exposing companies to risks of violating U.S. and international restrictions. Earlier reports suggested that Iran might seek to collect transit fees in the form of cryptocurrency. Although this has not been officially confirmed, former U.S. President Donald Trump had previously stated that he would not tolerate any attempts by Tehran to impose tolls on shipping passing through this vital waterway.
