If peace talks with Iran fail, Trump is prepared to use force
Odaily Planet Daily News: According to The New York Post, if peace talks with Iran fail, Trump is prepared to use force. For weeks, US allies, military analysts, and skeptics of the president's strategy have been asking: How was Iran allowed to seize and maintain control of this waterway? And, given the strong military power of the United States, why doesn't the Trump administration reopen the Strait of Hormuz by force? These issues will be particularly prominent in the peace talks that begin in Islamabad on Saturday, as control over the waterway remains Iran's strongest bargaining chip. This will also test Trump's focus on voters' economic sensitivity and his cautious attitude towards potentially endangering the safety of American personnel. Former Marine Corps regional military planner Mark Kansian said, 'I am surprised that the Navy has been unwilling to seize the strait itself.'. This is not the most glorious moment of the navy. When the moment came when the navy finally needed to save the world economy, it completely failed. Former US military officials and experts firmly believe that Iran's ability to control the strait is not due to the incompetence of the US military. Former Central Command Commander Frank McKenzie stated earlier this month that the US Navy has the capability to open that strait and keep it open if needed. Nevertheless, taking sustained military action for this is fraught with practical and political challenges. Former Deputy Commander of the Central Command, Robert Hayward, stated that the risk may not be significant for the Navy, but the political risk may be significant for the President. (Golden Ten)
