[U.S. Claims Its Diplomats Were 'Ambushed' in Iraq on the 8th]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on April 10, the U.S. State Department issued a statement on the 9th claiming that U.S. diplomats were 'ambushed' by Iraqi militia groups in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, on the 8th. The statement did not disclose further details about the 'ambush' or any casualties.
The statement noted that U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau summoned Iraq's Ambassador to the U.S., Nazar Khairallah, on the same day to 'strongly condemn, on behalf of the U.S. government, the severe terrorist attacks launched by pro-Iranian militia groups from within Iraq against U.S. diplomats and facilities.'
The statement also mentioned that in recent weeks, hundreds of attacks targeting U.S. citizens, diplomatic facilities, and commercial interests have occurred within Iraq. While acknowledging the efforts of Iraqi security forces in responding to these attacks, the statement criticized Iraq for failing to prevent them. It further alleged that 'certain members within the Iraqi government continue to provide political, financial, and operational cover for these militia groups, which has negatively impacted U.S.-Iraq relations.'
On the 8th, the Iraqi militia group 'Islamic Resistance Organization' issued a statement announcing a two-week suspension of its operations in Iraq and the Middle East.
