Dong Lijuan, Chief Statistician of the Urban Department of the National Bureau of Statistics, interpreted the PPI data for March 2026, stating that the national PPI increased for the first time after 41 months of continuous decline, from a 0.9% decrease in the previous month to a 0.5% increase. The main characteristics of the year-on-year operation of PPI this month are: firstly, the impact of international input factors on the price increase or decrease of domestic related industries has narrowed. The national PPI has risen by 1.0% month on month, marking the sixth consecutive month of increase. The growth rate has expanded by 0.6 percentage points compared to the previous month, making it the largest increase in 48 months. In major industries, due to the significant increase in international crude oil prices, domestic petroleum related industries have seen a rapid rise in prices. Among them, the prices of oil and gas extraction industry have increased by 15.8% month on month, the prices of petroleum, coal and other fuel processing industry have increased by 5.8%, and the prices of chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing industry have increased by 3.6%, with growth rates expanding by 10.7, 5.4 and 2.3 percentage points respectively compared to the previous month, which is the main reason for the expansion of PPI month on month growth.
