[Trump Accused of Pressuring NATO Members: Assist in Securing Hormuz in the Coming Days] Odaily Planet Daily News – Three European diplomats revealed to Reuters on Thursday that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has informed some member states that U.S. President Trump hopes allies will make concrete commitments in the coming days to assist in ensuring the security of the Strait of Hormuz. In recent weeks, Trump has repeatedly criticized NATO as a 'paper tiger,' even threatening to withdraw from the transatlantic alliance composed of 32 member states. He believes Washington's European allies enjoy U.S. security guarantees while providing insufficient support for U.S. and Israeli bombing operations in Iran. Currently, the UK is leading a coalition of approximately 40 countries attempting to develop a military and diplomatic plan aimed at reopening and protecting the Strait of Hormuz, but there are almost no signs of substantive progress in the near term. French President Macron stated on Wednesday that around 15 countries are planning to jointly promote the resumption of navigation in the strait. (Jin10)
