[BitMEX Co-Founder: Donated $5.4 Million to Reform UK]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on April 9, according to Decrypt, BitMEX co-founder Ben Delo disclosed that he had donated $5.4 million (approximately £4 million) to the Reform UK party led by Nigel Farage. The donation occurred before the UK introduced new regulations setting a £100,000 cap on donations from overseas residents.
Delo had previously pleaded guilty in the United States in 2022 for BitMEX's violations of anti-money laundering compliance regulations, paying a $10 million fine, and was later pardoned by Donald Trump. Reform UK had also previously received a £11.4 million donation from Christopher Harborne, a Thailand-based Tether investor.
The party positions itself as the most pro-cryptocurrency political party in the UK, but the UK government has already imposed a moratorium on cryptocurrency in political donations. Delo stated that he plans to relocate to the UK, at which point he will no longer be subject to donation limits.
