Wall Street Journal: Trump Considers Withdrawing US Troops from Some NATO Allies Odaily Planet Daily News: According to US government officials, the Trump administration is considering a plan aimed at punishing some NATO member countries that he believes did not support the United States and Israel during the Iran War. The proposal includes withdrawing US troops from NATO member countries that do not provide support and deploying them to countries that are more supportive of US military operations. This proposal is far less serious than Trump's recent threat to completely withdraw the United States from NATO. Without congressional approval, Trump has no right to withdraw. The plan has been circulating and gaining support among senior government officials in recent weeks, and is currently in the preliminary conceptual stage. It is one of several options being discussed by the White House to punish NATO. The White House previously stated that Trump believes NATO has not passed the "test" and will discuss "withdrawal" with Rutte. According to two government officials, in addition to redeployment of troops, the plan may also include closing at least one US military base in a European country, possibly Spain or Germany. Poland, Romania, Lithuania, Greece and other countries may benefit as they are seen as supporters. This plan may lead to more US military deployments closer to the Russian border, which could anger Moscow. (Wall Street Journal)
