[Bitcoin Miners Face New Competition for Cheap Power as Anthropic Signs Multi-Gigawatt Compute Agreement]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on April 7, Anthropic reached its largest compute collaboration agreement to date, partnering with Google and Broadcom to secure next-generation TPU compute power at a multi-gigawatt scale starting in 2027. Meanwhile, its annualized revenue scale has grown from $9 billion at the end of 2025 to $30 billion.
The rapid expansion of AI infrastructure is becoming a direct competitor to Bitcoin mining for scarce energy resources, including grid access, land, cooling capacity, and cheap electricity. Today, AI has become one of the largest sources of new electricity demand in the United States.
Under the pressure of rising costs and fluctuations in mining profitability, large Bitcoin mining companies are increasingly shifting toward supporting AI workloads, positioning themselves as providers of power and data center infrastructure while continuing Bitcoin mining, rather than remaining solely mining companies.
