From a report by The Information: Meta's internal network has a leaderboard for AI usage called Claudeonomics. Over the past 30 days, the top 250 users collectively consumed 60 trillion Claude Opus tokens. The top-ranked individual used 281 billion tokens in 30 days, racking up costs in the millions of dollars. Some Meta employees run AI agents on research tasks for hours just to climb the leaderboard. Silicon Valley is now obsessed with token maxing, where token consumption has become a key metric for measuring engineer productivity. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said at a conference last month that if a $500K-per-year engineer consumes less than $250K worth of tokens annually, he would be "deeply concerned." This year, Zuckerberg issued a bold directive in an internal memo to the engineering team: rewrite Meta's codebase so AI agents can directly understand and modify the code.
