Today's most interesting discussion in DeFi: Will AI Agents completely replace the Vault/Curator model?
Recently, security issues with protocols like Drift and Resolv have mostly revolved around centralized permissions/private key management. If, in the future, users can directly authorize Agents through their own wallets to manage funds, then products like Vaults might no longer be necessary, and the risks would seemingly disappear.
But risks don’t just vanish into thin air.
Instead, they shift from the protocol/curator layer to the user-side Agent execution layer. Users would go from trusting an institution or a curator to trusting their own rules and their own Agent.
This brings up another topic: the management and security of Agents.
As of now, this is a deeper unknown territory. At least for now, most people probably wouldn’t feel comfortable letting an Agent manage their primary wallet. That said, I believe this will become a trend in the future, and AI will undoubtedly accelerate the growth of real DeFi.
The distinction between on-chain finance and real DeFi will be a topic that’s bound to spark debates someday.
