Top-tier model experience card—GitHub Copilot is hands down the most cost-effective AI programming tool right now. Free version is free, offering 50 messages + 50 advanced requests per month—perfect for trying it out. Pro version costs $10/month, bumps advanced requests to 300, unlocks Claude Opus, Sonnet, and even lets you use cloud-based Agents. Pro+ costs $39/month, gives you 1,500 advanced requests, exclusive access to Claude Opus 4.6 Fast Mode, and third-party Agents. Students, teachers, and open-source maintainers can get Pro for free. But 300 requests doesn’t always mean 300 requests, because each model has different consumption rates: - GPT-4.1, GPT-4o, GPT-5 mini: rate 0, unlimited use for paid users. - Claude Haiku 4.5: rate 0.33, each request only deducts 0.33. - Claude Sonnet 4/4.5/4.6, Gemini 2.5 Pro, GPT-5.1 to 5.4 series: rate 1, normal deduction. Here’s the pricey part: Claude Opus 4.5 and 4.6 have a rate of 3, meaning one request deducts three. Pro users with 300 requests can only use Opus 100 times. And Opus 4.6 Fast Mode has a rate of 30, so Pro+ users with 1,500 requests can only use it 50 times. Exceeding the quota costs $0.04/request, but Opus Fast Mode is actually $0.04×30 = $1.20 per request. In other words, the $10/month price tag is real, but the model you use determines the actual cost. Using GPT-4.1 is truly unlimited and free, while using Opus Fast Mode might end up being more expensive than directly calling the API. When using Copilot, make sure to write your prompts completely before sending them.
