[UK Media: Britain Seeks to Attract Anthropic to Expand Operations in the UK]
Odaily Planet Daily reports, according to the Financial Times, the UK is attempting to persuade Anthropic to expand its operations in the country. The newspaper, citing informed sources, stated that the UK government’s proposals to Anthropic range from expanding office space in London to dual listing. Anthropic and the UK Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment. The office of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has consistently supported the work of the Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology. During Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's visit to the UK at the end of May, the UK plans to present this proposal to Amodei.
Previously, the US government blacklisted Anthropic, citing the company as a national security supply chain risk due to its refusal to allow the military to use its AI chatbot Claude for surveillance or autonomous weapon systems. A US judge has temporarily blocked the implementation of this blacklist. The AI startup has also filed a second lawsuit over the supply chain risk designation, which is still under review. (Jinshi)
