Anthropic spent $400 million to acquire a company with fewer than 10 people
The company is called Coefficient Bio, founded just last year, and the team is entirely made up of computational biology experts from Genentech.
$400M for 10 people? Crazy, right?
Not crazy. They're investing in the AI + biotech direction.
Dario (Anthropic CEO) has a big goal: getting Claude involved in drug development. In January, they launched Claude for Life Sciences, integrating with research platforms like PubMed and Benchling. Now they've brought the talent onboard too.
Basically: AI isn’t just here to help you write copy anymore—it’s here to help make medicine.
Here’s the kicker—Anthropic’s IPO is coming soon.
Acquiring a biotech team instantly upgrades their narrative: from "chatbot company" to "AI research infrastructure." The ceiling is on a whole different level.
