According to Bloomberg, the Irish government launched the testing phase of its digital wallet on April 4, which includes an age verification feature designed to confirm social media users' ages and enhance online safety for minors. As stated by Ireland's Department of Public Expenditure and Reform, the digital identity wallet will also support storing digital versions of birth certificates, driver's licenses, and other official documents. Earlier this year, Australia began banning social media accounts for users under 16 in January. Meanwhile, Ireland, home to the EU headquarters of tech companies like Meta, is exploring further restrictions on teenagers' use of social platforms.
