[South Korean 'Drug Lord' Park Wang-ryeol Transferred to Prosecutors, Authorities to Investigate Bitcoin Wallet Transaction Records]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on April 3, according to South Korea's News1, South Korean drug lord Park Wang-ryeol (phonetic translation), who was extradited from the Philippines, has been transferred to the South Korean Government Joint Investigation Headquarters for Drug Crimes. Authorities will focus on tracing his concealed funds and Bitcoin transaction records, as well as arresting related accomplices.
Park Wang-ryeol is accused of smuggling and selling drugs within South Korea from November 2019 to July 2024. The confirmed criminal proceeds amount to approximately 6.8 billion KRW, with an additional 12.7 kilograms of methamphetamine valued at around 6.4 billion KRW intercepted during smuggling attempts, bringing the total case value to approximately 13.1 billion KRW.
Since external observers believe the aforementioned amount does not align with the scale of his long-term operations, the investigation headquarters will prioritize probing his concealed assets. Park Wang-ryeol reportedly accepted drug sales payments through non-traceable deposits and Bitcoin wallets. Authorities plan to analyze the on-chain transaction records of the implicated Bitcoin wallets.
