[US CFTC Sues Three States, Claims Exclusive Jurisdiction Over Prediction Markets] The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), in collaboration with the Department of Justice, filed lawsuits against Illinois, Connecticut, and Arizona on April 3, asserting exclusive jurisdiction over prediction market platforms under the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA). Previously, these three states had issued cease-and-desist orders to platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket, alleging violations of state gambling laws. CFTC Chairman Mike Selig stated that state interventions could negatively impact market participants. Currently, 11 states have taken legal action against prediction market platforms, and Congress is pushing legislation to ban contracts on sports events and political insider participation in prediction markets.
