The strategy of launching AgentPay compatible with x402 and MPP by @ worldlibertyfi is quite clever, as it has hitched a ride on the huge potential of intelligent agent payment with relatively low cost.
MPP, led by Stripe and Tempo in March this year, is Coinbase x402's biggest competitor in the AI Agent payment arena at the protocol level. The more accurate relationship between x402 and MPP is complementarity rather than zero sum competition.
X402 focuses on crypto native lightweight micro payments, while MPP focuses on high-frequency stablecoin+fiat hybrid payments, both of which are building wheels for AI Agent payment scenarios.
WLFI did not choose to build wheels, but instead launched a self hosted runtime AgentPay that encapsulates x402 and MPP, supporting developers to integrate x402/MPP and other payment methods with just one click, giving them a smooth ride.
But AgentPay largely solves the trust assumption problem of x402/MPP towards the facilitator, where all signatures are completed locally (based on EIP-3009), self hosted, and the private key never leaves the local area, providing higher security.
We do not produce payment agreements, we are just movers for x402/MPP. It's also a clever way of playing.
