[Media: Trump Threatened to Cut Off Weapons Supply to Ukraine if Europe Didn't Join the Strait of Hormuz Alliance]
According to a report by Jinse Finance on April 2, citing the Financial Times, sources revealed that Trump threatened to stop supplying weapons to Ukraine unless Europe joined the Strait of Hormuz Alliance. Last month, Trump requested NATO naval forces to assist him in reopening the strait, but this was rejected by European governments. Three officials familiar with the discussions stated that Trump responded by threatening to halt supplies to the 'Priority Ukraine Requirements List' (PURL) program.
As a result, under the urging of NATO Secretary General Rutte, several key member states, including France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, issued a hastily agreed-upon statement on March 19, stating: 'We express our willingness to make appropriate contributions to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.'
An official familiar with the discussions said: 'It was Rutte who insisted on issuing this joint statement because Trump had threatened to withdraw from the Transatlantic Partnership Alliance and completely disengage from Ukrainian affairs.'
