[Block: Reshaping Corporate Organizational Structure with AI, Replacing Hierarchical Management with 'Intelligent Agents']
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on March 31, Block published an article explaining how it is using artificial intelligence to restructure corporate organizational models, replacing traditional hierarchical management systems with 'corporate intelligent agents.' The article points out that from Roman legions to modern enterprises, hierarchical systems are essentially a form of information routing protocol, constrained by the limits of human managerial capacity. Block believes that AI has, for the first time, acquired the ability to undertake hierarchical coordination functions and sustainably maintain a 'world model' for enterprise operations, thereby breaking through organizational constraints that have persisted for over two millennia.
In terms of specific structure, Block has streamlined its organization into three types of roles: individual contributors (ICs) responsible for building and operating systems at various levels, directly responsible individuals (DRIs) with cross-team resource allocation authority, and 'player-coaches' who balance business execution with talent development, eliminating permanent middle management positions.
On the data level, Block leverages transaction data from Square and Cash App to construct an 'economic graph' encompassing merchants and consumers, serving as the core signal source driving the intelligent layer. The intelligent layer can autonomously integrate foundational capabilities such as payments, lending, and card issuance, proactively delivering customized financial solutions to users without requiring product managers to predefine roadmaps.
