[Bitcoin Researcher Comments on Google's Quantum Paper: 10% Probability of Quantum Breaking Bitcoin by 2032]
BlockBeats News, March 31: Bitcoin security researcher and Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake published an article discussing the timeline for quantum computing to potentially break Bitcoin.
Justin Drake believes that the findings in Google's Quantum AI white paper are conservative. 'By 2032, there is at least a 10% probability that quantum computers will be able to recover secp256k1 ECDSA private keys from leaked public keys. While it still feels unlikely that cryptographically relevant quantum computers (CRQCs) will emerge before 2030, now is undoubtedly the time to start preparing.'
Justin Drake also stated that achieving commercially viable Bitcoin proof-of-work through Grover's algorithm will not happen in the short term. 'We are talking about decades, or even centuries, into the future. This observation should help shift the focus of discussions to ECDSA and Schnorr. As an unofficial Bitcoin security researcher, I still believe that Bitcoin proof-of-work has already failed due to reduced security budgets.'
