[Google Recommends Blockchain Migration to Post-Quantum Cryptography by 2029]
On March 31, the Google Quantum AI team released a white paper indicating that the resources required for quantum computers related to future cryptography are lower than expected, capable of breaking Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC). Research shows that quantum circuits targeting the 256-bit elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem can complete calculations within minutes on a superconducting quantum computer with fewer than 500,000 physical qubits, reducing resource requirements by approximately 20 times. Google recommends the cryptocurrency community migrate to Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) by 2029 and urges avoiding exposure or reuse of vulnerable wallet addresses. Additionally, Google is collaborating with institutions such as Coinbase, Stanford Blockchain Research Center, and the Ethereum Foundation to advance related efforts.
