[ECB Governing Council Member Müller: Cannot Rule Out the Possibility of a Rate Hike in April]
Jin10 News, March 31 – ECB Governing Council Member Müller stated that if the Iran war continues to drive up oil and natural gas prices, he does not rule out the possibility of a rate hike at next month's policy meeting. He said: 'It is difficult to judge where we will stand by the end of April. If energy prices remain high for an extended period, we certainly cannot rule out the possibility of adjusting interest rates as early as April.'
Although most ECB policymakers advocate waiting to assess the extent of the impact on European inflation, some have begun leaning toward taking action. Müller noted that he will closely monitor wages and the labor market, which are key indicators of broader inflationary pressures, while distinguishing between the goods and services sectors, particularly industries where energy is a significant input cost, such as aviation.
