Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Floyd Green, shared that Jamaica is taking strong steps to protect farmers from the growing impact of climate change. Minister Green explained that recent hurricanes and changing weather patterns have caused billions in losses, especially for small farmers who depend heavily on rainfall. Through the new ADAPT Jamaica programme, the Government will focus on six key parishes, St. Elizabeth, Manchester, Clarendon, St. Catherine, St. Ann and Trelawny, to strengthen farming systems and improve food security. The project will introduce climate-smart solutions like solar-powered irrigation, stronger greenhouses, better water management, and improved storage to reduce food loss. Farmers will also receive training, access to financing, and real-time weather information to help them plan better.(Andrew Holness)
