[U.S. Senator Questions SEC Leadership Changes and Decision to Dismiss Justin Sun Case] Odaily Planet Daily News – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal has sent a letter to SEC Chairman Paul Atkins, raising questions about the short tenure and resignation of former Enforcement Division head Margaret Ryan, as well as expressing concerns over the SEC's decision to dismiss charges against Tron founder Justin Sun. Ryan assumed her position in September 2025 and resigned this March. In the letter, Blumenthal stated that her sudden departure raises doubts, particularly amid reports that SEC leadership had interfered with the Enforcement Division, restricting progress on certain cryptocurrency-related cases. According to media reports, Ryan had attempted to strengthen investigations into fraud-related cases, including those involving individuals connected to President Trump, but faced opposition from some senior Republican members of the commission. The Justin Sun case highlighted significant divisions. During the Biden administration, the SEC had accused Sun and his affiliated companies of conducting unregistered securities offerings through TRX and BTT tokens, manipulating the market through wash trading, and paying celebrities for undisclosed promotions. However, under the current administration, the SEC has dismissed several enforcement cases against cryptocurrency companies, including Coinbase, Kraken, and Binance, sparking market concerns about shifts in regulatory direction.
