A man from Maryland, USA, Jonathan Spalletta, has been indicted for allegedly carrying out two attacks on the decentralized exchange Uranium Finance in 2021, involving approximately $54 million. Prosecutors claim he exploited vulnerabilities in smart contracts to illegally extract funds, draining the liquidity pool in a short period and causing the platform to shut down. He faces charges of computer fraud and money laundering, with a maximum sentence of up to 30 years. Part of the funds were reportedly used to purchase collectibles and other assets, while law enforcement has already recovered around $31 million in related crypto assets.
