[Japan's Senate Budget Committee Passes Temporary Budget for Fiscal Year 2026]
On March 30 local time, Japan's Senate Budget Committee voted to pass the temporary budget for fiscal year 2026. To prevent government operations from being disrupted due to a lack of budget continuity, the Japanese Cabinet approved a temporary budget on March 27 and submitted it to the National Diet for review. The total amount of this temporary budget is approximately 8.56 trillion yen, covering expenditures such as transfers to local governments, social security-related costs, civil servant salaries, and high school tuition subsidies, ensuring the government can operate normally for 11 days. In January this year, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi suddenly announced the dissolution of the House of Representatives and called for an early general election, forcing the review schedule for the fiscal year 2026 budget, which begins on April 1, to be delayed by about one month.
