**[OpenAI's Cost-Cutting Triggers Ripple Effect: Global Memory Chip Prices Begin to Decline]**
According to a report by Jinse Finance on March 30, citing Bianews, growing concerns over OpenAI's funding chain and expansion capabilities have led the tech giant to implement recent cost-cutting measures, directly impacting the previously booming memory chip market. OpenAI's explosive growth had previously driven a surge in memory prices. As essential components for consumer electronics and data centers, suppliers were unable to meet the massive demand from the AI industry. Market research firm TrendForce revealed that over the past year, memory module prices had skyrocketed by approximately sevenfold.
However, as OpenAI begins to hit the brakes on its massive data center investments, signs of stabilization in this price surge have finally emerged. For instance, DDR5 memory kits have seen price drops of up to $100 for certain products. According to follow-up reports from industry media, the price of a 32GB kit on Amazon has plummeted from a recent peak of $490 to $370.
Yet, as the creator behind ChatGPT, OpenAI has recently halted several highly costly flagship projects, raising doubts in the market about whether they can still absorb such a large volume of chips. Just last week, in an effort to control ballooning operational costs, they shut down the once highly anticipated AI video generation application, Sora. Earlier this month, they also tore up a multi-billion-dollar agreement with Oracle, abandoning plans to expand a super data center in Texas. (Dongxin News Agency)
