Linea to Transition to RISC-V Architecture
Foresight News|Mar 30, 2026 03:11
Foresight News reports that Ethereum L2 project Linea announced via a tweet that its cryptography researcher Alexandre Belling revealed at Ethproofs that Linea will transition to the RISC-V architecture. The primary reason is that every Ethereum hard fork requires a complete rewrite of the constraint module, forcing the team to focus on combating complexity rather than advancing cutting-edge performance. RISC-V offers only 32 registers and approximately 40 instructions. For proof systems, this narrower scope allows for real-time construction, enabling the prover to immediately begin processing proof fragments. Additionally, RISC-V features a more streamlined execution path and Type-1 compatibility while retaining zkC (constraint-native language), Vortex, and Arcane (proof/aggregation stack), as well as formal verification.
Linea stated that this move aligns closely with the RISC-V roadmap being advanced by the Ethereum Foundation, with more technical details to be disclosed in the coming weeks.
