Ethereum is finally no longer installed: L1 guards the nest, L2 goes to seize the world!
Ethereum made it very clear this time.
L1 and L2 are not substitutes for each other.
L2 is not just an expansion tool for L1 to work on.
The new division of labor now is:
L1 guards the core.
L2 competes for incremental gains.
This is not a technical detail update.
This is a route rewrite.
1. L2 is no longer a 'cheap version of Ethereum'.
In the past few years, the task of L2 was very simple:
Assist in scaling Ethereum.
But that's not the case anymore.
Many L2 requirements are not just cheaper.
They want their own users.
Their own economic system.
Your own sorting authority.
Your own business model.
Your own market strategy.
So this is equivalent to officially acknowledging:
L2 is not just an expansion tool now.
L2 itself is a growth engine.
They are responsible for innovation.
Responsible for differentiation.
Responsible for taking Ethereum to places where L1 cannot do it.
2. L1's positioning: Don't try to do everything, just be the core honestly.
The most sobering thing about Ethereum this time is that it no longer dreams of "one chain covering the world".
Even if L1 expands 1000 times in the future,
A single chain cannot meet all the demand on the global chain.
Because of many things, L1 is naturally not suitable for doing.
Lower latency.
Stronger customization.
More emphasis on privacy.
Non EVM.
Compliance framework for specific businesses.
Specific market strategies.
These things, all stuffed into L1, are unnecessary and cannot be done well.
So the role of L1 is very clear:
Global settlement.
Shared liquidity.
DeFi Core.
The strongest security.
The strongest decentralization.
The strongest resistance to censorship.
in a word:
L1 is not responsible for flower activities.
L1 is responsible for being the root.
3. The most crucial change is that L2 has officially legalized the matter of each individual expanding.
Many people used to think that,
Since you are Ethereum L2,
Shouldn't you try to be like Ethereum as much as possible?
The more it resembles, the more orthodox it becomes.
The answer is now clear: no.
If you want to tie L1 tightly, you can continue walking in that direction.
Synchronized composability, full interoperability, shared liquidity, native Rollup, all of these can be pursued.
But that's not the only answer.
Some L2 individuals have to follow their own path.
Has its own business model.
Has its own technical strengths.
Has its own control needs.
Okay too.
The premise is one:
Explain your security attributes clearly.
Inherited Ethereum or something.
I didn't inherit anything.
Don't pretend.
This is actually saying:
You can go ahead and roll it out.
Roll products, roll experience, roll market.
But don't detach yourself from the center of Ethereum.
4. To put it bluntly, Ethereum has now accepted the reality that it cannot win in the era of multi chain, so it should become the center of the multi chain era.
Many public chains used to want to be unique.
Make the final decision.
Do everything.
Ethereum doesn't think so now.
It accepts that multiple chains will exist for a long time.
Accepting different chains has different requirements.
Accept that you cannot fit all executions, products, and rules into one chain.
Then what should we do?
Not to be the only one.
Go to the center.
Let ETH continue to be the most important asset anchor.
Let L1 continue to be the most important settlement layer.
Let liquidity, assets, security, and developer mindset continue to converge towards this center.
So what we really need to preserve now is not 'everything returns to L1'.
But rather:
No matter how the ecosystem is divided, the focus must still be on Ethereum.
5. This is currently the most sobering aspect of Ethereum.
It's not about completing everything with just one L1.
Not by crushing L2.
It's not about making everyone obediently subservient.
But rather:
L1 strives to achieve the ultimate in security, settlement, liquidity, and decentralization.
L2 takes product, innovation, and control to the extreme.
Finally, let the value continue to flow back to the center of Ethereum.
If this road goes through,
The ultimate way Ethereum wins may not be 'everyone on L1'.
But rather:
No one can bypass Ethereum.
This is like the end.
