[Xinhua News Agency: California Bans Officials from Profiting in Prediction Markets Using Insider Information] Odaily Planet Daily reports that on the 27th, California Governor Newsom signed a decree prohibiting administrative officials appointed by the governor from profiting in prediction markets using insider information. The California Governor's Office stated in a press release that some U.S. officials, who evidently have access to sensitive federal government information, exhibit "extremely precise timing" in their bets within prediction markets. The statement also criticized certain officials for turning public service into a "get-rich-quick" scheme. The statement highlighted four cases of prediction market transactions, showing that individuals without insider information were highly unlikely to make such trades. Profits from these predictions ranged from tens of thousands to millions of dollars and involved multiple U.S. military actions related to Venezuela and Iran. In some cases, prediction market accounts were opened just days before the actions occurred, or bets were placed mere hours before the events. Among these, six suspected insiders bet on U.S. military strikes against Iran, collectively earning $1.2 million. Notably, they opened prediction market accounts just days before the conflict occurred. (Xinhua News Agency)
