In my conversation with Forestry Department's CEO and Conservator of Forests, Ainsley Henry, I reflected on the state of our forests following the hurricane and the work being done to restore them. While some areas are recovering well, particularly those with native forests, others with single-type pine trees have suffered more lasting damage.
I see this not just as a challenge, but as an opportunity to rebuild stronger by reintroducing native species that are better suited to our environment and can also support economic activity. Through our ongoing efforts, we are protecting more forest areas, and ensuring that our natural resources continue to play a key role in building resilience and supporting livelihoods across Jamaica.(Andrew Holness)
