Iran still has enough of an arsenal to be a major regional threat, to control the Strait, and to obliterate any US position encroaching on Kharg without an interceptor escort. With the Strait closed, the US could only launch an amphibious assault on Kharg from Kuwait, which would mean the support ships that would fire missile interceptors wouldn’t be there for support.
