[FT Claims the U.S. Is Borrowing the UK Model to Restrict the Federal Reserve, Besent Responds: Tabloid Gossip and False News]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports, on March 27, according to Jintou Data, the Financial Times (FT) previously claimed that U.S. Treasury Secretary Besent had discussed with market participants the idea of strengthening the Treasury's oversight of the Federal Reserve by borrowing elements from the UK central bank model. This move would overturn the relationship between the Federal Reserve and the government. Currently, Trump has launched an unprecedented attack on the world's most important central bank.
Besent responded to this news by blasting FT: "Utterly false reporting, FT has completely degenerated into a tabloid for market participants' gossip. Despite my public and clear denial of ever advocating, discussing, or supporting using the Chancellor of the Exchequer-Bank of England framework as a blueprint for the Treasury-Federal Reserve relationship, FT's journalists still concocted an article titled 'Besent Praises the Bank of England as a Model for Strengthening Federal Reserve Oversight.' These pathetic journalists have clearly fabricated a story to create the impression that I and the Trump administration are working on 'restructuring this relationship... while President Trump is launching an unprecedented attack on the world's most important central bank.'
In short, FT has entirely fabricated a false policy stance for me and this administration. Beyond further promoting that malicious and erroneous narrative of 'institutional dysfunction and mutual antagonism,' why they would choose to damage their already tarnished journalistic credibility is truly baffling.
