[U.S. House Holds Hearing to Advance Securities Tokenization, SEC Proposes Innovation Exemption Plan]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on March 26, the U.S. House Financial Services Committee held a hearing on Wednesday regarding securities tokenization. Republican Congressman Andy Barr stated that securities tokenization is "undoubtedly imminent," and regulatory modernization is imperative.
The SEC had previously approved DTCC to tokenize high-liquidity assets on designated blockchains and recently approved Nasdaq to support tokenized stock trading. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins indicated that the agency will seek public comments on an innovation exemption plan to establish a regulatory sandbox for on-chain assets.
Some Democratic lawmakers expressed concerns about the exemption plan, fearing it could create a two-tier market.
